Careless Driving is a charge that is usually given to someone who has been involved in a collision. It is a very broad charge that covers many different driving situations.
You can be charged with “careless driving” if you are found at a high risk of “driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway“.
THE PENALTIES FOR CARELESS DRIVING
The penalties for being convicted of “careless driving” are highlighted in the Highway Traffic Act as follows:
Increased Vehicle Insurance Rates – The highest financial cost of a “careless driving” offence may be the significant increase in your insurance premiums due to its effect on your driving record. Your premiums will increase for at least three years from your Insurance company.
